Sijonori card
Sijonori card
This is a card game for familarizing sijo, Korea's traditional poetic form. It was created in the 1920's and was widely played until the 1940's. Its creation was influenced by the Japanese game garuda (カルタ) which made use of waga (和歌), Japan's traditional song. The game spread widely due to sijo's revival movement, part of the attempt for the affirmative succession of the traditional literature. There are two kinds of cards in sijonori: one on which an entire sijo is written, and the other on which only a part of sijo is written. The game begins thus: First, the cards with last lines of sijo are mixed and strewn on the floor; then the game presider starts reading complete sijos, and the players try to find the card that matches the sijo from the floor. One who finds the most cards is the winner.
